HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS TIPS
What Families Need to do to Prepare for the Hurricane Season.
“Every home and business should have a basic supply kit that could be used for any emergency, regardless of the time of the year. Everyone should keep certain items around the house in the event of a hurricane or other severe weather. A portable radio, flashlight, extra batteries, extra non-perishable food, water, and a first aid kit are all essential to help your family weather the storm.”
“All families should develop a “Family Emergency Communication Plan” to help ensure everyone is safe. You should contact your local authorities to learn about potential evacuation routes and the location of emergency shelters in your community. It is important to familiarize yourself with your Community’s Emergency Plans before an emergency situation occurs.” --MA Emergency Management Agency
Hurricane Disaster Supply Kit:
· Canned meats and fish; fruits and vegetables; soups and puddings; fruit juices; dried fruits and nuts; bread, cookies and crackers; peanut butter and jelly; coffee and tea; bottled water (one gallon per person/per day); infant care items; pet food and supplies; first-aid kit.
· Manual can opener; disposable plates, cups, and utensils; plastic trash bags; plastic sheeting or tarp.
· Prescription medications; extra eyeglasses; water purification tablets; personal hygiene items.
· Battery operated radio and flashlights or lanterns with extra batteries; matches; ice chest; portable outdoor camping stove; tools; portable generator, etc.

Friendly Visitor
Being assigned to a friend
is a bit odd.
Then again the need
promotes the deed.
“He lives alone aided by women,
needs some male company.”
Eight-seven, he moves
with walker and wheelchair.
Still smiles, is eminently gracious
to his visitor.
Once a week--they go by,
bonding to things in common.
Comfortable now, pleased to meet
as “old” friends
Linked by the years
and life’s experiences.

PRESCRIPTION ADVANTAGE
Are you reaching the
“donut hole”?
This year, thousands of seniors in Massachusetts have already reached the gap in their prescription drug coverage (Medicare Part D) often known as the “donut hole”. They reached this gap when their total (retail) prescription drug costs reached $2,510. From that point on, the next $3,200 in prescription drug costs are not covered by Medicare!
This does not have to happen to you. Prescription Advantage, the state’s pharmacy assistance program, can help to pay for your prescription drugs if you reach that “donut hole”. Call Prescription Advantage at 1-800-AGE-INFO (1-800-243-4636), or speak to your local SHINE Counselor in Westport, 508-636-1026, to learn how Prescription Advantage can keep you out of that “donut hole”. E.O.E.A.
The Senior Care Options (SCO) Program brings Medicare and MassHealth together and is especially for MassHealth members. Seniors who are 65 years of age or older, and meet the MassHealth financial elig-ibility criteria. May be eligible for SCO.
Why choose SCO?
· Because SCO will provide Medicare Part D Prescription Drug coverage without any co-payments;
· Because SCO offers dental, vision and hearing-aid coverage;
· Because SCO offers individualized care--each member’s doctor and a team of professionals design each care plan; and each member has 24-hour access to a team of professionals;
· Because SCO members keep all their MassHealth benefits.
