Westport News

Present:    Lisa Arnold (LA), Bob McCarthy (BM), Warren Messier (WM), Tony Vieira (TV), Hugh Morton (HM), Tracy Priestner (TP), Jack Baughan (JB), Chuck Goldberg (CG), John Miller (JM)

1.    LA, Chair, opened the meeting at 7:00 pm with the traditional salute to the flag.

2. Minutes:    The following minutes were presented for approval:    3/26, 3/31, 4/2, 4/21, 4/28, 5/5.  4/28 and 5/5 were tabled to the next meeting.  All others were voted on separately with WM making the motion and CG seconding it and all were in favor.

3.    FY 10 Update:        Michael Coughlin was in attendance to give the Fincom the update on the cuts from the State.  He did not have a handout since the Senate had not come through with their cuts by the time the meeting was called to order.  He did say that the House voted to allocate the sales tax increase to cover local aid but the Senate voted to use it for other items.  He did mention that they restored public aid to libraries but did not enact any numbers with regards to Chapter 70 funds.  He said he felt confident to come to the next Fincom meeting with a balanced budget to present at Town Meeting.
 
4.    Other:        CG made a motion to reconsider the Fincom’s recommendation to Town Meeting regarding the Commission on Disabilities.  This was seconded by WM for discussion.  Many valid points were touched upon by all.  When a vote was called to see who would be in favor of reconsidering the recommendation, the vote was 4-5.  No new recommendation would be made a Town Meeting.
 
Adjournment and next meeting: There being no further business to come before this meeting, JM moved and TP seconded a motion to adjourn the meeting at 8:45pm.  The vote in favor was unanimous.   The next meeting will be May 21st at 6:30 pm.
