BOARD OF SELECTMEN

SPECIAL MEETING MINUTES

MONDAY

AUGUST 01, 2011

Members Present:                 Richard M. Spirlet, Chairman

                                                Craig J. Dutra, Vice Chairman

                                                Steven J. Ouellette

                        Antone C. Vieira Jr.

                        James W. Coyne, Clerk

Chairman Spirlet called the Board of Selectmen meeting to order at 6:02 P.M. in the Westport Town Hall, 816 Main Road, Westport, MA with the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance by all present.

Mr. Spirlet stated this special meeting would be held in Executive Session in order to review the applications that have been received for the Interim Town Administrator position.  At this time, twenty-seven applications have been received.  Mr. Dutra noted that at least one or two of the applicants have requested to be interviewed in Executive Session and under the Open Meeting Law, the Board is allowed to honor that request; when the Board has reached it’s final list of applicants, that is when the interviews will be held in Open Session.

Mr. Spirlet noted there will be a special School Committee Meeting on Tuesday, August 02, 2011 at 1:30 PM regarding an update on the problem at the Middle School.

Mr. Spirlet also noted that a memo will be sent out to all Department Heads, Boards, Committees and Commissions under the jurisdiction of the Selectmen regarding use of Town Counsel or if anyone with problems are to contact one of the Board members; also  Town Treasurer George Foster is now the Chief Procurement Officer.

Motion made by Mr. Vieira to approve the issuance of the memo.  Second by Mr. Ouellette.  The Board voted unanimously in favor.

Mr. Vieira stated quickly for the Board, that he was attending at St. John the Baptist Church and apparently, there was an oversight of an invitation but anyway, the Board of Selectmen were presented with a plaque in celebration of their 100^th Anniversary.

Mr. Ouellette asked that an item be placed on the next BOS agenda to discuss Westport’s 225^th Anniversary coming up next year.

6:10 PM

Motion made by Mr. Dutra to enter into Executive Session pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 30A, Section 21 to discuss and review applications for the Interim Town Administrator position.  Second by Mr. Ouellette.  The Board voted unanimously in favor.

Roll Call Vote: Mr. Dutra-aye. Mr. Ouellette-aye. Mr. Vieira-aye. Mr. Coyne-aye.  Mr. Spirlet-aye. 

Mr. Spirlet announced that the Board would return to Open Session in order to adjourn.

6:55 PM – Open Session

Motion made by Mr. Ouellette to adjourn the Board of Selectmen meeting.  Second by Mr. Dutra.  The Board voted unanimously in favor.
